Lucuma

The lucuma and mamey sapota are related and belong to the sapotaceae. Both fruits with a huge history. The Incas refer to the fruit as ''gold'' because of its sweetness and rarity. A symbol of fertility and creation. Lucumas are about the size of an apple and are mainly eaten raw from the hand. The fruit is also suitable for making syrup or using on cakes.
Preparation & storage
Preparation
The lucuma can be cut in half and the pulp easily removed with a spoon. In Peru, lucuma is a popular flavour for ice cream
Storage
After purchase, lucuma can be kept for about 1-3 days. To prevent the fruit from ripening too quickly, you can keep it in the fridge. Keep in mind, however, that this may affect the flavour of the fruit. If you want to store lucuma for a longer period, you can freeze it. This way, you can store the fruit for up to 6 months without affecting its flavour or nutritional value.
