Sustainability

Sustainability plays an increasingly important role in our daily lives. Fruit and vegetables are naturally sustainable choices within our diet and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world.

Sustainability

Fruits and vegetables: a relatively low footprint

According to the Barilla Food Pyramid, fruit and vegetables have a relatively low environmental footprint compared to many other foods. They are low on the pyramid: products that we can eat often while having a lower impact on the earth.

Packaging as protection

Packaging is often seen as an environmental problem, but it actually plays an important role in sustainability. Well-chosen packaging:

 • protects fruit and vegetables during transport and storage,
 • extends shelf life,
 • prevents spoilage and therefore waste.

Wasting less = more sustainable

Wasting food is a major environmental problem. By packing products optimally and storing them smartly, we can prevent a lot of waste. The less we waste, the more sustainable our diet becomes.
