Muscat squash

The pumpkin is related to the cucumber and melon. The butternut squash is usually round to oval, broad and ribbed. The size and shape can vary considerably from one muscat squash to another. The weight can also vary from 3 to 100 kilos. The skin of the pumpkin turns from green to orange during the ripening process. The dark yellow flesh has a sweet taste.

Preparation & storage
Storage
Store whole pumpkins in a cool (12-15°C) dry place. Do not store colder than 8°C. Then they will keep for up to 2 months.
Using part of the pumpkin? Cover the cut surface with cling film and store the remainder in the fridge.
You can also freeze the pumpkin. Do blanch (heat briefly) just before freezing.
How can I tell if the pumpkin is no longer good? The pumpkin will turn mouldy or have rotten spots. You can recognise decay by looking, smelling or tasting.
Preparation
Wash the butternut squash. Halve the pumpkin. Remove the threads and seeds with a spoon or knife. Peel the pieces with a knife or peeler. Then cut the flesh into cubes or slices.
