Oregano

No Italian or Greek cuisine without oregano. Oregano is also called eelwort or wild marjoram. Oregano is a sweet-spicy smelling herb. The leaves are small, usually have a pointed tip and are velvety. The leaves can also be dried very well.
Preparation & storage
Storage
Oregano is best stored in the crisper section of your fridge, where it will keep for a few days.
Store oregano in its original packaging, in an open plastic bag or cling film.
You can also dry oregano perfectly.
Drying is done like this:
- Spread the leaves on a clean (dry) tea towel.
- Turn them over occasionally.
- Can you crumble them? Then they have dried. This can take about 2 weeks.
- Store the leaves in a sealable jar or container. Store in a cool, dry and dark place.
Prepare
Pluck the leaves from the stems. Wash the leaves and finely chop them.
Fresh oregano should only be added at the end of preparation, otherwise this herb will lose its flavour.
