Turmeric, also known as Curcuma longa, is a perennial plant belonging to the ginger family. The plant is native to Southeast Asia and is often used as a spice in Indian, Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian cuisines. Turmeric has been used in traditional medicine for centuries for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. In recent years, this spice has gained popularity in the western world because of its potential health benefits.

Preparation & storage

    Prepare

Experiment with this spice in various dishes, such as stews, broths or even in your morning drink. For instance, try a golden latte, a hot drink composed of turmeric, (almond) milk, fresh ginger, a touch of cinnamon powder, a pinch of black pepper.

    Store

Turmeric powder can be stored for a long time if stored properly. First, make sure the container you store turmeric in is completely dry. If there is moisture in the jar, the powder may clump together. Second, choose an airtight container that keeps the air out. Exposure to air can cause the turmeric powder to lose its flavour and aroma. Finally, store the jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
