Bergamot

The bergamot, also known as bergamia, is a small round and sour citrus fruit. The name bergamot owes this citrus to its place of origin, Bergamo in Italy. The Greeks call bergamot 'Pergamonto' which would refer to ancient Pergamon (now Bergama, Turkey). The peel of the bergamot citrus is used to make bergamot oil. This essential oil is commonly used in perfumes and other cosmetics. So you may have already been introduced to bergamot citrus.
Preparation & storage
Prepare
Use bergamot in the same way as you would use a lemon, with which you can prepare delectable sweet treats such as cakes, cakes, cupcakes, biscuits and macarons. Furthermore, it is also becoming increasingly popular as an ingredient for tea and various cocktails.
Storage
A bergamot is best stored in the fridge. Cooled bergamots can be kept for up to 5 weeks, whereas unrefrigerated bergamots only keep for 1 to 2 weeks. It is therefore important to keep bergamots in the fridge to extend their shelf life.
