Boysenberry

A boysenberry is shaped like a raspberry, but is longer. Its colour is dark red to black. This juicy berry was created by crossing raspberry, blackberry, strawberry and loganberry. The loganberry again originated from a cross, namely between a raspberry and a blackberry. The boysenberry is juicy and has a special flavour, unlike other soft red fruits.

Preparation & storage
Storage
Preferably store berries in a paper bag in the fridge. You can also keep the berries spread out on a plate in the fridge. Make sure they do not get damp. If necessary, lay the berries on kitchen paper to absorb any moisture.
Berries can be kept in the fridge for 1-2 days.
You can also freeze them: lay the berries side by side on a flat plate and let them freeze. Then wrap them in a plastic container or freezer bag and put them back in the freezer. In the freezer (at - 18°C), the berries can be kept for a few months.
How do I know if the berries are no longer good? The berries are mouldy or limp. Decay can be recognised by looking, smelling or tasting.
Preparation
Berries are fragile. Therefore, touch them as little as possible, only if necessary. Wash the berries just before serving and drain them.
