Mango nam dok mai is a native mango species from Thailand but is now grown commercially mainly in the Americas, Colombia and Australia. The medium-sized mango tree can reach a height of more than six metres. It is an early-mid-season diversity, with the potential for multiple crops in a year. This depends on the climate in which this tree lives. The exotic fruit is elongated and has a unique curuba-like shape.

Preparation & storage

    Preparing

Peel the mango and then cut the flesh loose from the stone. Use it the same way you would with a regular mango, or just enjoy it as a hand fruit. In Thailand, the Avozilla is often the star of the popular dish 'mango sticky rice'.

    Store

To keep exotic mangoes fresh for as long as possible, it is advisable to store them in a reasonably cool place, for instance between 8 and 13 degrees Celsius. Although the colour of the skin does not indicate the ripeness of the mango, you can determine ripeness in another way. When you press an exotic mango gently and it gives slightly, the mango is ripe.
