Avozilla (giant avocado)

The persea americana, better known as avozilla, is an evergreen tree in the laurel family. It is a large berry also known as alligator or avocado pear. The exotic fruit has been used for more than 5,000 years and grows mainly in the highlands of south-central America. The avozilla is the big brother of the avocado as we see it in shops. Avozillas are 2 to 3 times larger than the 'small' avocados, making them suitable for meals for more than 2 people.

Preparation & storage
Preparing
Start by cutting the Avozilla, removing the stone and spooning out the flesh from the skin, or cut the flesh into cubes or slices. To preserve the fresh colour, you can drizzle the flesh of the Avozilla with lemon juice as a handy tip.
Storage
If you have a ripe Avozilla, you can store it outside the fridge for about two days. This is handy if you plan to use it soon. On the other hand, if you have an unripe Avozilla, you can store it at room temperature until it is ripe. This usually takes a few days, depending on the ripeness of the fruit.
