Originally from France, the Charentais melon is famous for its sweet taste and aroma. The skin of the melon is thin. The skin is light green in colour with some dark stripes. The shape is slightly flattened round. The most distinctive feature of the charentais is its bright orange flesh that is very tasty.

Preparation & storage

    Storage
Do not store melons in the fridge. The cold disrupts the ripening process. The melon is best stored on the fruit shelf or in a cool place.

Don't wait too long to eat this delicious melon! The melon is picked ripe, ripens further at home and quickly becomes overripe. Eat the melon within a few days of purchase.

Do store pieces and wedges of melon in the fridge, but wrap them in aluminium foil or plastic film. They will then keep for a maximum of 3 days.

Keep in mind that melons give off a strong, sweet odour. Dairy products can easily absorb this.

In the freezer, melons will keep for up to 12 months at a minimum of -18°C.

How do I know if the melon is no longer good? The melon is discoloured or mouldy. You can quickly recognise spoilage by looking, smelling or tasting.

    Preparation
Wash the melon before use. Halve the melon and cut into slices.

Remove the seeds and skin. If necessary, cut the slices into pieces. You can also use a special melon spoon to cut out small balls.
