Hala fruit

Pandanus tectorius, or Hala fruit is a species native to Malaysia. Hala fruit is the fruit of the Pandanus tectorius tree and is about 30 centimetres long and 20 centimetres wide. Like a large pine cone. The taste of hala fruit is unique and extremely flavourful. It is a combination of sweet and tropical flavours, best compared to the taste of mango and pineapple.
Preparation & storage
Preparation
The fruit of the hala tree has extractable segments on the outside. Under the segments is a soft, spongy white pulp. You can easily remove the pulp from the segments by chewing them. Moreover, it is possible to boil and squeeze the fruit to obtain a liquid, which is often used as an ingredient in sauces and the like.
Storage
If you want to store hala fruit well, it is recommended to keep it in the fridge. To do this, cut the fruit into wedges and store them in a sealed container in the fridge. Due to the low temperature, the fruit stays fresh longer and retains its flavour and texture. So you can enjoy it for up to 2-3 days!
