

Maracuja


The maracuja is the yellow sister of the passion fruit. Its skin is yellow-green and leathery. Like passion fruit and pomegranate, the flesh consists mainly of seeds surrounded by a kind of jelly. The taste of maracuja is sweet, but somewhat milder than the passion fruit. Incidentally, a passion fruit is called maracuja in German. It is best to keep maracuja on the fruit bowl.

Storage
You can store maracuja at room temperature for a few days. They will keep slightly longer in the fridge.
Preparing
Cut the maracuja open and spoon out the flesh. The flesh looks very decorative on sorbet ice cream, cakes or desserts or as a garnish for meat dishes. The pulp can also be processed (strained) into juice.
