Melon Pear

The melon pear, also known as pepino, is native to Peru and Colombia. The egg-shaped fruit has a thin, lemon-yellow skin with dark red to lilac stripes and can be up to 20 cm long. The flesh is juicy and yellow in colour. The flavour is lemony with hints of pineapple and melon.

Preparation & storage
Storage
You can keep a ripe melon pear in the fridge for about 3 days. A fruit that is not yet ripe ripens well at room temperature.
Preparing
Cut the fruit in half, remove the core and any seeds. Then cut the flesh into wedges. The skin is not edible. The flesh discolours quickly, so sprinkle with lemon or lime juice.
