Tendral melon

The tendral is dark green in colour and oval in shape. The most striking thing about this melon? The skin is grooved lengthwise. Unlike other melons, the tendral also has a very thick firm skin. The yellow-green flesh has little flavour. The tendral is a so-called winter melon, available in the winter months. It is best to store the tendral melon in a cool place.

Preparation & storage
Storage
The thick skin gives a tendral a long shelf life. A fruit will keep for up to 5 weeks in a cool place.
Store melon pieces and segments in the fridge, but wrap them in aluminium foil or plastic film. They will then keep for a maximum of 3 days.
Bear in mind that melons give off a strong, sweet odour. Dairy products can easily absorb this.
In the freezer, melons will keep for up to 12 months at a minimum of -18°C.
How do I know if the melon is no longer good? The melon is discoloured or mouldy. You can quickly recognise spoilage by looking, smelling or tasting.
Preparation
Wash the melon before use. Halve the fruit and remove the seeds. Cut the flesh loose from the skin and cut into cubes or wedges.
