The wonderful world of fruits

The world's oldest and best-known fruit: mango

When you think of tropical sweetness, you think of mango. But this juicy fruit is more than just a summer treat. In fact, the mango is the oldest known fruit on earth. For thousands of years before Christ, this fruit was cultivated in Southeast Asia. Thanks to its irresistible taste and nutritious properties, packed with vitamins A, C and E, antioxidants and fibre, the mango has taken the world by storm.

And it is not only the fruit itself that is impressive: the mango tree is also the very largest fruit tree in the world. It can grow up to 30 metres tall, with a broad crown that provides metres of shade.

What are gathering fruits?

Blackberries and raspberries may seem small, but they are in fact real collections in their own right! Collectible fruits consist of a multitude of small fruits. Each little ball on a blackberry or raspberry is an individual fruit. Together, they form a complex but delicious unit. So when you enjoy a raspberry, you taste dozens of mini fruits at once. Fascinating, right?

These special fruits are also at the heart of the campaign a handful of summer. This campaign puts summer fruits in the spotlight and emphasises how tasty and healthy berries, blackberries and raspberries are. They are not only rich in flavour, but also in antioxidants, fibre and vitamin C. If you need inspiration on what you can do with summer fruit, follow a handful of summer on TikTok, Instagram or Facebook.

The unusual stone fruit family

Stone fruits, or stone fruits, are fruits that carry a hard stone in their core. Think peaches, nectarines, cherries, plums and apricots. These fruits are made up of three parts: a skin, juicy flesh and a hard 'stone' in the middle. That distinctive stone is the reason they belong to the stone fruit family. Stone fruits are versatile, flavourful and often packed with vitamins and antioxidants. They are perfect for a summer snack, but also delicious in pies, compotes or even savoury dishes.
