The American persimmon is round or oval and ranges in size from 3-6 cm. Its colour is orange. The persimmon turns blue or black as it matures. It is also called date plum because of its appearance but also because of its flavour, which is similar to both plum and date. It can be eaten fresh or cooked.

You can store ripe American persimmon in the fridge for up to 3 days. Unripe fruit ripens well at room temperature.
