




Cucumber





Cucumber is an annual fruit vegetable belonging to the melon and courgette family. The cucumber grows on a climbing plant with large leaves. The fruit is harvested when it is dark green. As it ripens, the fruit turns yellow-green. Its fresh taste makes it a popular salad vegetable, but you can also stew and bake it. Cucumber is best stored in a cool place.

Storage
Do not store vegetables in the fridge, but in a cool place such as a pantry. The cucumber will keep for 1 week.
It is best to keep leftover raw cucumbers in the fridge. Keep it wrapped in cling film.
Cooked cucumber can be kept in the fridge for 2 days.
Cucumber is not a suitable vegetable to freeze.

How do I know if a cucumber is no longer good? The cucumber will have rotten spots or go mouldy. You can quickly detect decay by using your senses. So look, smell or taste and you'll know!

You can use the cucumber either peeled or unpeeled. You can grate the cucumber, slice or dice it or scoop out small balls with a special spoon.
