Custard potato

The custard apple is also called oxheart or tropical cream apple. The fruit is related to cherimoya and sugar apple. The unripe fruit is pale green in colour and rock hard. During ripening, the fruit gets brown spots and softens. This makes it look overripe, but appearances are deceptive. Just then, the flesh tastes deliciously sweet and juicy.

Preparation & storage
Storage
Keep unripe fruit on the fruit tray until the characteristic brown spots appear on them.
Ripe custard apples can be kept in the fridge for a few days. Handle them with care.
Preparing
Cut the fruit in half lengthwise and remove the black seeds. This is easy because they are loose. You can then cut or scoop out the flesh.
