Feijoa

A feijoa is an egg-shaped fruit native to Brazil. In German, the fruit is called pineapple guava. At the base, the calyx is left as a kind of crown. The skin is green when the fruit is unripe, but turns reddish-green as it ripens. The flesh is cream-coloured. When ripe, the flavour is a bit like pineapple.
Preparation & storage
Storage
Feijoas stay good on the fruit bowl for 2-3 days. In the fridge, you can keep them for a week. The aroma comes out best when the fruit is not too cold.
How do I know if the feijoa is no longer good? The feijoa has dried out, become mouldy or lost flavour.
You can quickly recognise this decay by looking, smelling or tasting.
Prepare
Halve the feijoas and remove the core and seeds. Spoon or cut out the flesh.
