Ginger

Ginger is a root tuber of the ginger plant. As early as the Middle Ages, the tuber was used to flavour dishes. Ginger makes meat more tender, as fresh ginger contains a protein-splitting enzyme. Ginger can be bought as a fresh tuber, but also as ginger syrup or ginger powder. It is scientifically proven that ginger helps against nausea, for example in cases of car sickness or pregnancy.
Preparation & storage
Storage
You can store pieces of fresh ginger in an open plastic bag in the crisper section of the fridge. This way, the ginger will keep for 3 weeks.
You can also freeze fresh ginger in small portions.
Candied ginger and ginger powder can be kept for months in sealed jars.
Preparation
Peel ginger root thinly. The easiest way to do this is with the back of a spoon. Then you can thinly slice or finely grate the ginger.
