Kiwano

You might think it is a kiwifruit, but the kiwano is more closely related to the cucumber and melon. The fruit has blunt spines. The flesh is jelly-like with hundreds of edible seeds. When the fruit starts to turn somewhat orange, it is edible. The flavour is reminiscent of melon, banana and lemon. It is best to store kiwano in a cool place.
Preparation & storage
Storage
You can store a kiwano for several weeks in a cool place. Do not put a kiwano in the fridge. The fridge is too cold for full ripening.
Preparing
Cut the fruit in half and scoop out the flesh. For sorbets and juice, rub the pulp through a sieve.
