Pomelo

The pomelo is a citrus fruit and is related to the grapefruit. The pomelo has a smooth, yellow-white skin. The fruit can be as large as 30 centimetres. The flavour is slightly bitter, but sweeter than that of the grapefruit. Most pomelos come from China and Vietnam. Pomelo is also called Chinese grapefruit.
Preparation & storage
Cutting pomelo
This video shows you how to cut a pomelo.
Storing pomelo
Store the pomelo outside the fridge, preferably in a well-ventilated place. Just on the fruit bowl is fine. A pomelo will keep for weeks.
Once you have cut the fruit, cover it with cling film and store the cut fruit in the fridge.
Preparing pomelo
Peel the fruit. Also remove the white skin as much as possible.
You can also use a sharp knife to cut away the flesh between the skins. The 'naked' segments look great in a cocktail or salad.
