Salak

The salak is an exotic fruit that originally grows on palm trees in swamps in Malaysia, Sumatra and Java. The fruit is also called snake fruit because of its snakeskin-like skin. The fruit is about 8 cm long and shaped like a drop. The skin is hard and reddish-brown. Inside are a few segments with a seed. The segments taste fresh sour and are crunchy. In the Netherlands, salak is rarely available.
