

Sugar apple


It looks like a slightly oversized green pine cone, this sugar apple. The heart-shaped fruit, is also called sweet bag, cinnamon apple or scale apple. The fruit has a skin of closed scales. When the fruit is ripe, the scales burst open. The flesh is distinctly sweet. The sugar apple is closely related to cherimoya. It is best to store sugar apple on the fruit bowl.

Storage
This fruit should not be stored below 12°C. This stops the ripening process. Store the fruit on the fruit shelf until it is ripe.
Preparation
Cut the fruit in half lengthwise. Remove the black seeds. This is very easy because they are loose. You can then cut or scoop out the flesh.
