Thyme

Thyme is a tawny shrub with woody stems. Its leaves are small and slender. The leaves have a full, sharp and distinctive flavour. It is a commonly used herb with vegetables, fish or meat. Using thyme for the first time? Dose carefully so you can get used to its powerful flavour development. Another variant besides thyme is lemon thyme. It is best to keep sprigs of thyme in the fridge.
Preparation & storage
Storage
Sprigs of thyme are best kept in the crisper section of your fridge, where they will keep for a few days.
You can cut some from a window sill plant if you need it.
Take good care of your plant:
- Not in a draught.
- In the light.
- Water it regularly.
You can also dry the sprigs. Then you will have thyme at your disposal all year round. Dried thyme keeps for a long time.
Drying is done like this:
- Spread the sprigs on a clean (dry) tea towel.
- Turn them over occasionally.
- Can you crumble the leaves? Then they have dried. This can take about 2 weeks.
- Store the leaves in a sealable jar or container. Store in a cool, dry and dark place.
Prepare
Crush the leaves briefly to release the aroma.
Add the leaves as early as possible during preparation to allow the aroma to penetrate.

Preparation times
There is no preparation time for thyme. You can 'just' add the herb to the dish. If you do this at the beginning, this herb gives off more flavour.
Cleaning thyme
Unzip the leaves from the sprigs. Wash the leaves.
