White Tayer

Tayers are root tubers that can weigh about 2 kilos. They have a dark brown, hard exterior. The flesh is white or lilac in colour. Tayers are used in Surinamese cuisine in the popular dish pom. Like potatoes, the tubers are rich in starch, but are relatively low in protein and vitamins.
