The yellow and orange tomatoes are firm vine tomatoes. The tomatoes are distinctive for their colour and full flavour. So you can make not only a tasty but also colourful dish. The tomato ripens from green to yellow or orange. When the vine tomatoes are completely yellow or orange, the vine is ripe to be cut. It is best to store tomatoes in a cool place, but not in the fridge.

Preparation & storage

    Storage
Store tomatoes in a cool place, they will retain their flavour and remain firm. They will keep for about 1 week.

    Do not store tomatoes:

    • In the fridge. Why not? Then they lose their delicious aroma.
    • Near cucumbers or aubergines. Why not? Tomatoes secrete a gas (ethylene). Cucumbers and aubergines are sensitive to this and spoil faster.

Eat tomatoes at room temperature, then the flavour comes out best.

How do I know if tomatoes are no longer good? Tomatoes are mouldy, have a sour smell or are limp. You can quickly recognise this decay by looking, smelling or tasting.

    Preparation
Remove the crown and wash the tomato. You can eat the tomato on its own. Sliced tomatoes are also delicious on wholemeal bread or in a salad.
