Carrots are long, slender carrots. Carrots are sold in bunches with the foliage still on. Carrots taste slightly sweet. Carrots combine very well with other spring vegetables, such as mangetout or peas. Carrots come from the Netherlands, but also from Spain and Germany.

Preparation & storage

    Storage
    Carrots with the foliage (green) attached are called carrots. Spring carrots can be kept in the fridge for about 4 days. Carrots without foliage will keep for one to two weeks in the fridge.

    Want to freeze raw carrots? Blanch them first for 2-4 minutes. Carrots will then keep at least -18ºC for up to 12 months.

    Do you have any leftover cooked carrots? Then you can keep them in the fridge for 2 days or in the freezer for 3 months in a sealable container.

    How do I know if carrots are no longer good? The carrots are mouldy or limp. You can recognise decay by looking or possibly feeling them.

    You can nibble the carrots. You can also slice them and cook them in a dish, for example.

    Deep-freeze: 1 year

    Cooking: approx. 10 minutes
    Stir-frying: 6 - 8 minutes
    Microwave oven: 4 - 5 minutes
    Braising: 10 - 13 minutes
    Steaming: 17 - 19 minutes

    Wash the carrots before use. Cut a slice from the bottom and top.
