Cherry tomatoes

Cherry tomatoes are about the size of a cherry. They are therefore also called cherry tomatoes. Like the normal tomato, the cherry tomato contains lycopene. Lycopene acts as an antioxidant and may protect against prostate cancer. Special cherry tomatoes (the snack tomatoes) geared towards children are also grown, these have an extra sweet flavour.

Preparation & storage
Storage
Store cherry tomatoes in a cool place.
Do not store cherry tomatoes in the fridge, as this disrupts the ripening process. Another reason not to keep them in the fridge: they will lose their flavour. They will keep for about 1 week.
Tomatoes that have been blanched for about 1 minute can be kept in a tightly sealed plastic container in the freezer for up to 12 months, at a minimum of -18ºC. But fresh they are best!
How do I know if cherry tomatoes are no longer good? The tomatoes go mouldy, give off a sour smell or become limp. You can quickly recognise this decay by looking, smelling or tasting.
Preparation
Cherry tomatoes hardly need any preparation. You eat them straight from the hand or cut them in half. Just wash them and remove the crown. You can pick it off easily.
