Jujube

Jujube fruit, also called red date or Chinese date, looks (not surprisingly) like a date. The fruit is small and oval in shape and grows on deciduous trees or low-lying shrubs. It has a stone on the inside, just like a traditional date or olive. The Chinese have been using jujube for medicinal purposes for about 3,000 years. Indeed, jujube fruit is rich in dietary fibre, minerals and antioxidants.

Preparation & storage
Storage
Dried jujubes will keep for months. Store them in a dry, cool place. If stored for a very long time, they can dry out. This makes them taste slightly off, but they are still edible.
Preparation
Dried jujube fruit can be eaten in many ways. Jujubes are ideal as an addition to your desserts and bakes. Think of all the recipes you can make with dates and replace the dates with jujube fruit.
You can also eat jujube like this:
- On the go
- Stuffed jujube with goat cheese
- Briefly stir-fried with onions
- As a garnish with roasted meat
- Make your own granola with dried jujube
