Mushrooms are mushrooms with a round white cap and a fairly neutral flavour. The most well-known edible mushroom is the white mushroom. The white mushroom is grown all year round in our own country. This is done in special rooms where an optimal climate is created with the right temperature and humidity.

Preparation & storage

    Storage
Ideally, use mushrooms as fresh as possible. You can store them in the fridge. They retain their quality best at a temperature of between 4° and 7°C. They can then be kept for 2 to 3 days.

It is best to leave the mushrooms in the packaging in which they were packed. If they are loose, do not put them in a sealed plastic bag. This suffocates the mushrooms, making them moist and unsightly. Mushrooms need to 'breathe', in a paper bag or a dry tea towel will do.

Do not store mushrooms with strong-smelling vegetables, such as leeks and onions. Mushrooms easily pick up odours. Do not store them with fruit either, as they will deteriorate faster.

How do I know if the mushrooms are no longer good? The mushrooms are mouldy, limp or have a sour smell. You can quickly recognise decay by looking, smelling or even tasting.

    Refrigerator: 2 days

    Preparation times

    Cooking: 5 - 7 minutes
    Stir-frying: 2 - 4 minutes
    Microwave oven: 2 - 3 minutes
    Deep-frying: 2 - 4 minutes
    Grilling: 2 - 4 minutes
    Braising: approx. 10 minutes
    Steaming: approx. 6 minutes

    Cleaning mushrooms

Wipe the mushrooms clean with a kitchen paper or mushroom brush. Only do this just before cooking.

You clean mushrooms dry. If you put them in water, they will fill up with water, which they will release during cooking. This causes some loss of flavour.
