Spring onions get their name from the way they are sold: in bunches. Not because they grow in the forest, in other words. They are also called spring onions or stem onions. The flavour is mild and reminiscent of leeks. You can use raw spring onions in salads or as a garnish for soups. Spring onion is also widely used in Asian dishes, such as noodle soup or curry dishes.

Preparation & storage

    Storage
Store spring onion in the crisper section of the fridge. This way spring onion will keep for about a week.

Leftovers? Store leftover spring onion in cling film or a storage container in the fridge.

How do I know if spring onion is still good? Precut spring onions become limp, smell sour or mouldy. You can quickly recognise decay by smelling, looking or tasting.

    Preparing
Cut off the bottom. Also remove the very last part of the greenery and the outer yellowed parts. Then wash the onions and cut them into small rings.
