Anise

Anise is a flowering plant whose (dried) seeds in particular are used in cooking. Aniseed is a special flavouring best known from rusks with mice. You can use the seed whole as an addition to dishes, but you can also grind it into powder. Anise is not the same as star anise, though they taste similar.
Also known as:
Preparation & storage
Aniseed has a strong smell and taste, so be moderate with how much of it you use. You can add the seed whole to dishes or first grind it (with a mortar) into powder.
Storing aniseed
You can store dried aniseed in a sealed jar in a cool, dark and dry place for up to 12 months.
Storage times
Cool place: 12 months
After 12 months, the flavour of the seeds may diminish. In that case, add some more aniseed.
Preparing aniseed
Anise seeds can be added whole or ground (in a mortar) to dishes to flavour them. Veggipedia also has information on growing, buying anise and flavour.
