Currants

The currant is native to Europe and western Asia. The currant comes in red, pink or white varieties. Red currants are about 1 cm in size and have a small crown. The berries grow in clusters. Red currants are a source of vitamin C. This vitamin can help you maintain a good resistance.

Preparation & storage
Storage
Store currants preferably spread out on a plate in the fridge, they will keep for a few days. Make sure they do not get damp. If necessary, lay the berries on kitchen paper to absorb moisture.
You can also freeze them: place the currants side by side on a flat plate and let them freeze. Then wrap them in a plastic container or freezer bag and put them back in the freezer. In the freezer (at - 18°C), the berries can be kept for a few months.
How do I know if the berries are no longer good? The currants are mouldy or limp. You can recognise decay by looking, smelling or tasting.
Preparation
Redcurrants are delicate, so touch them as little as possible. Wash them just before serving. Only remove the stalks after washing.
