Elstar is a cross between Golden Delicious and Ingrid Marie. Elstar was originally grown in the Netherlands. It was first discovered by Arie from Elst. Hence the name. It is a juicy, crisp apple with creamy white flesh. Its aroma and flavour: fresh and deliciously sweet. Most Elstar apples are green-yellow with a bright red blush.

Storage
They are best stored in a cool place or in the fridge. In the fridge, you can easily keep them for 2 weeks.
Are the apples next to a banana on the fruit bowl? Then the apples will ripen faster.
Preparing
Wash the apples. You can eat the apple out of your hand, but you can also peel it.
The flesh discolours quickly without peeling. You can prevent this with a little lemon juice or (cider) vinegar.
The apple, and especially the skin, contains pectin, a substance that helps jelly and jam gel.
You can cook the Elstar and use it in all kinds of cold and hot dishes.
Would you like to bake an apple with skin in the oven? Then slice the skin all around to prevent it from cracking.
