Apple

Dutch apples, great for biting into like this. But you can also boil them, stir-fry them or just eat them raw in a salad. The apple is very popular, it is the most widely eaten fruit in the Netherlands! This is not surprising, as there are so many varieties and flavours! So you have them from crisp and sour to softer and sweet.
Preparation & storage
Storage
Apples are best stored in a cool place or in the fridge. In the fridge, they will keep for up to 4 weeks.
Do the apples lie next to a banana on the fruit bowl? Then the apples will ripen faster.
Cooking & baking
The flesh discolours quickly without peel. You can prevent this with a little lemon juice or (cider) vinegar.
The apple, and especially the skin, contains pectin, a substance that helps jelly and jam gel.
Most apple varieties can be cooked and used in all kinds of cold and hot dishes.
Want to bake an apple with skin in the oven? Then slice the skin all around to prevent it from cracking.
